Providing access to quality books for under-resourced children to better prepare them for kindergarten and success in school.
Bring Me A Book® Foundation, founded in 1997, is an award-winning, early-literacy non-profit committed to selecting, procuring and delivering quality books to under-resourced children. Bring Me A Book is focused on preparing children for kindergarten, and insuring access to books through working with established, community-based partners. Our focus is on children from 0 - 5 years.
BMAB programs inspire parents and caregivers to read aloud to children, one of the most important factors in determining a child's school readiness. Bring Me A Book has provided access to children's literature to over 1,000,000 children and families in California at over 3,000 sites that include state funded preschools, childcare centers, Head Start preschools, homeless shelters, libraries, parks, community centers and health clinics. We also provide books and programs in the Bay Area, Florida, Hong Kong, St. Louis and Southern California through our established affiliate partners.
Bring Me a Book is unique in that we provide a library for the classroom of new, multi-cultural and multi-lingual books selected by literacy experts; read aloud training for parents and teachers, and a BMAB First Teachers Resource Toolbox for our partnering sites to continue to develop and involve the parents. This approach has benefits for children (increasing the likelihood of school success), parents (increasing continuing parental engagement and training), and teachers (expanding professional development).
