Challenge:
To provide brand new, high-quality, age-appropriate, hard backed books for children living in underserved communities who might not otherwise have access to them.
Solution:
One Brick and Hands On Bay Area bring individuals and organizations together to cover and bookplate BMAB’s hardcover books. These volunteers donate over approximately 2400 hours each year making it possible to deliver our Bookcase Libraries to children in need at the lowest possible cost to our donors.
One Brick
One Brick provides support to local non-profit and community organizations by creating a unique, social, and flexible volunteer environment for those interested in making a concrete difference in the community. One Brick enables people to get involved, have an impact and have fun, without the requirements of individual long-term commitments.
Hands On Bay Area
Hands On Bay Area (HOBA) creates opportunities for people to volunteer, learn and lead in their communities. HOBA manages 120 direct-service projects a month and offer educational programming to help volunteers become well-informed community leaders.
One Brick and Hands On Bay Area are two community-based volunteer organizations that have regularly scheduled volunteering commitments at Bring Me A Book. Volunteers are vital to BMAB as they are the driving force in the preparation of books for BMAB’s Bookcase Libraries. All of the children’s books provided in BMAB’s Bookcase Libraries are hand-selected and volunteers help cover books in clear plastic to prolong their durability. The care and attention given to each book communicates an unspoken message that every child deserves the “best” children’s books available, that these important gifts emphasize the importance of reading. Volunteer assistance allows BMAB to put the children’s needs first.
