Challenge:

To provide a high-quality educational experience for students living in an underserved community, to develop and share innovative practices with teachers and administrators nationwide, and to help prepare teachers in settings that most need high-quality teachers.

Solution:

The Stanford New School (SNS) is a non-profit organization, formed in collaboration with the Stanford University School of Education to develop and sustain small, innovative, high-performing public schools in underserved communities. SNS currently operates East Palo Alto Academy, which includes a High School (9-12) and an Elementary School (K-8), both serving East Palo Alto, California.

In support of Stanford University School of Education, Bring Me A Book provided bookcase libraries for all kindergarten, first and second grade classrooms at East Palo Alto Academy, a Stanford New School. The high quality children's books selected for these classrooms provides a tremendous resource for the teachers at the school, while stirring the imaginations and expanding the world for students.

In addition to the placement of books in the classrooms Bring Me A Book partners with the Junior League of Palo Alto:Mid Peninsula to provide volunteer readers for each classroom. A committee of Junior League sustaining members adopt classrooms, replenish each bookcase with 20 new treasured stories and read aloud to students at least twice a month. Every month each student takes home one of the story books to keep and build their own personal library.

Through innovative partnerships and investment in underserved communities, Bring Me A Book plans to replicate the extraordinary relationship built at East Palo Alto Academy in their communities as its Adopt-A-Site program.
